Historian and heraldry Philip William Gercken

Philip William was born on Gercken 05. January 1722 the son of the merchant Georg was born in Salzwedel Gercken. He initially attended the Latin School New Town, Then he finished his schooling at the Old Latin School under headmaster plaice. He then attended high school in Lüneburg.

1745 He was down on the farm in Osterburg Wollenrade, 1761 He bought the castle Salzwedel, which he 1782 sold. Then went to Frankfurt / Main and 1786 to Worms. He was appointed Justice of the imperial princes. His plan, to write a history of the Altmark, He could not realize. His collection of documents has been taken over by a preacher Gallus, who published a book on the basis of which the Mark Brandenburg. Gercken died on 26. June 1791 in Worms.
