The deed book of the City of Brunswick was a scientific long-term project. The idea for an edition of the medieval sources of the City of Brunswick is on the 1000 anniversary of Braunschweig 1861 back. Until the completion of the first volume, published in installments (1873), of the most important legal evidence from the period up 1671 contains, however, should not take more than ten years.

At irregular intervals, then appeared the volumes 2 (1890), 3 (1897) and 4 (1905), where documents, Letters, City book entries and documents in the file to 1340 were brought to reprint. The editors of the first volumes were Ludwig Hansel man (Bd. 1 to 3) and Heinrich Mack (Bd. 3 and 4). The Date 1905 often required for the continuation of this story Braunschweig such fundamental importance Edition project was not until the 1990's,.
